Prosper is a nonprofit founded in 2021 with a vision to build the most inclusive and thriving economy in the Southeast by aligning Birmingham and Jefferson County around inclusive Job Creation, Job Preparation, and Job Access goals and strategies.

We are rooted in equity so that everyone, especially Black people and women, can thrive
We are in the business of creating opportunities where few currently exist.
We seek big wins and big national investments, and we won’t let past fears hold us back from building a more prosperous future for all
We measure and share our progress, celebrate wins, and engage the community in how we can do better
The three key goals are accelerated by Prosper’s role as a national advocate developing vital relationships to increase national funding, national partnerships and national storytelling and as a local convener galvanizing like-missioned entities to collaborate around shared inclusive economic development goals to advance the region.
Job Creation Strategy
A cross-sector effort involving the Prosper HealthTech Accelerator powered by gener8tor. These initiatives grow a health technology cluster through investments and strategic partnerships and a vibrant business ecosystem with educational and technical assistance netting living wage careers in Birmingham.
Job Preparation Strategy
A strategy supporting Birmingham Promise connecting Birmingham scholars to internship experiences and college financial assistance, mobilizing the Catalyze Birmingham Challenge funding innovative career-connected learning, and implementing the Good Jobs Challenge/Path to Wellness for health workers.
Job Access strategy
Prosper’s Job Access strategy is a collaborative approach to accelerate job access by connecting Black entrepreneurs with the capital, coaching and connections needed through investments in Magic City Match and Operation: Backing Black Businesses/Network Navigator and by utilizing the Network Navigator online platform to augment and advance the journey of entrepreneurship for business owners.
